The International Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities (ICLDF) met the week of 20 to 24 June 2016 in Washington, DC, USA, to coordinate the work of all five regions of the Laity Dominicans, with the General Promoter of the Laity for the Order of Preachers, Fr. Rui Antunes Carlos Almeida Lopes, OP.

The meeting, held at the Dominican House of Studies, was attended by representatives of the five regions of lay fraternities of the Order, namely Mr. Felix Foko OP Fovop (Africa), Dr. Belen Tangco OP (Asia-Pacific. ), Mr. Klaus Bornewasser OP (Europe), Mr. Joseph L. Komandina OP (North America), and Prof. Hector L. Marquez OP (Latin America and the Caribbean).

In addition to the final planning of the Congress on the Mission of the Order and Closing of the Jubilee Year scheduled for 18 to 21 January 2017, we received the reports of the five regions and discussed  issues particular to each, as well as other issues related to the Dominican Laity, We also continued and outlined the work plan for the International Congress of the Dominican Laity, scheduled for October 3 - 11, 2018 in Fatima Portugal. Dr. Tangco Belem, OP was elected General Secretary of the Congress.

During the meeting, reelected as President and Treasurer, respectively, were Prof. Hector L. Marquez, OP, and Mr. Klaus Bornewasser, OP.

In the coming weeks, the regional representatives will be communicating with the coordinators or provincial presidents regarding delegates to Congress on the Mission of the Order and the 2018 International Congress of Fatima.

The fraternities of the Province of Saint Joseph, the Eastern USA, played host to the Council and shared with its members during a reception following the second day of work.
